The Tables Turned

I’ve been needing new headshots for a while. My good friend Joanna Bridges kindly offered to help.

We followed to some degree the style of headshot made popular by Peter Hurley. Here’s an example of a headshot Hurley did for Matt Kloskowski, Hurley Headshot. OK, OK, I’m not as young or as good looking as Matt. But as my dear grandma used to say, “Comparisons are odious.”

I like the clean white background of the Hurley style. We used two lights shining on the paper background to brighten it and also provide a bit of soft sidelight on the face. There are two lights in front, with the one to camera right being the main light. We did a few other images, with and without a camera in hand. We’ll share these images along the way.

It’s good for me to have my picture taken every once in a while, so I’ll remember to be sympathetic to the little anxieties my clients sometimes go through. Joanna was wonderful at keeping me relaxed and laughing.

Many thanks again, Joanna. Of course, with a camera in my hand, I couldn’t help myself – and had to shoot a few quick grab shots of her, such as the one below.

Working both in the studio and on location, photographer Blake Robinson serves the Connecticut communities of Darien, New Canaan, Stamford, Norwalk, Westport and Greenwich.

  1. It was fun to work with you Blake. You are truly a pro! And I’ve gotten lots of compliments on your spur of the moment shot. Joanna

Wonderful pictures, as always, Blake. The ones of you and Joanna are very natural. I had to chuckle as my dear Mother often said: “Comparisons are odious”. I find myself saying the same!
