Motherly Love

Faithful readers will recognize these two lovely ladies. Elora, now soon to be 18 months old, was featured in my last blog post, Sixteen Months. And I’ve shot with her mom, Amelia, many times. Amelia is an accomplished actor and model and is the star of this video.

These two were such fun to photograph. The enthusiastic love and joy they share with each other is infectious and comes through in these images loud and clear.

A mother’s love for her child is like
nothing else in the world. It knows no
law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes
down remorselessly all that stands in its path.

Giving Thanks for BFFs

neca-449-1100px-edit

Recently, I had the pleasure of taking headshots at a nearby high school. I photographed a lot of people over 3 days – 45 students as well as 12 teachers and staff.  Please click on the image to see it LARGER and clearer – on your phone, tablet or computer.

These two girls came in and asked if I would shoot them together. They were laughing and enjoying themselves – clearly BFFs. (If you’re as old as me – you may need a translation – could be Best Friends Forever or Best Female Friends.)

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. I’m thankful for many things.  One is the opportunity to photograph young people that are full of life and promise. Another is  – in a world that is supposedly becoming more fragmented and polarized – to see these two beautiful young women enjoying their deep friendship. They are good role models for us all.

Mezzo Soprano

Christina-245-950px-Edit

Last week, I did headshots for a dear friend and one of my favorite subjects. Christina is an opera singer and needed updated headshots for auditions and also a new personal website.  She has just finished a successful summer of concerts and training with the Asheville (NC) Lyric Opera Young Artist Program, as one of just six singers chosen to participate.

We photographed these images with window light in the background.  The style of headshots for opera singers today is moving away from solid white background. In these portraits, I used a narrow depth of field so the window frame and the greenery outside would go out of focus and thus not distract from the main subject.

Faithful readers will recall other photographs I’ve taken of Christina.  If you do a search for “Christina” in the search box to the right, you’ll see some earlier posts with images of her as well as a link to a video we created together.

Wishing Christina all the best in her budding opera career!
