Every year on Columbus Day, I have the privilege of photographing these two boys for the family Christmas card. These are terrific guys indeed and are a true joy to work with. This year we did the shoot at their school. Ricky and Ryan are good athletes. Great form, as you can see, for the pass….

…and the catch as well! In addition to football, tetherball was featured this day…

The school had just installed some kind of a climbing thing – the boys were all over it.

The young men are always patient with me – and even to sit still long enough for some headshots. Handsome guys to be sure!

We shot for almost two hours. I’m not sure whether I wore them out, or perhaps they were a bit tired from their sleepover with friends the night before. (See below.)

After seeing the images, the boys’ mom wrote: “The pictures came out beautifully! I love them all!! Thank you so much! Thank you for spending the day with us and making us feel so special!”  Comments like these from clients make photography so rewarding for me.

I’d love to photograph your kids while we still have some lovely Fall colors around.

“Individual, Indelible, Iconic Images”

Family Portraits at a Wedding

At a recent family wedding in Virginia, I was, thankfully, not the official photographer. So, I had the pleasure of just taking the pictures I chose to. I found a great setup to do some portraits – window light with a blank, beige wall to use as a backdrop. No flash needed for any of these pictures. Simple is best!

The bride was one of  my Muslim nieces, so you will see some of the women covered in these photographs. Also, most of the women wore green dresses and the men (including Uncle Blake) wore green ties. Green is an important color in the Islamic faith.

As you can see, the window light provides a beautiful, soft wrap-around light, that works well for individual and group images. This is a handsome family, no?

Where is the bride? Here’s one candid image of her, below, with the flower girl.

“Priceless Family Memories”

The timeworn cliche about family pictures is the capturing of “Priceless Family Memories.”  A cliche to be sure, but true, as I learned again this holiday season.

Thomas (the dad in the image above) works and lives in Hong Kong. He only gets back to the States about every three years. Two sets of grandparents were in the area as well. He wanted to get some images of the three generations – eight people.  Because the grandparents were getting on in age, he wasn’t sure when, if ever, he’d be able to get photographs of the the whole group.

While we took pictures of the eight of them, I’m just including here Thomas’s immediate family.

With this terrific family, and with others I shot for holiday cards and a few small events over the last couple of months, I’m reminded again of how precious these images can be. Kids grow up fast, the world moves quickly, we’re all in a big hurry. A series of family pictures can stop time for a moment, to be recalled again and again in future years – and in future generations. Priceless, indeed.

Is it time to take pictures of your family?
