Last week, I had the pleasure of taking my first pictures of an expectant mother. My friend Amanda, just a couple of weeks before her delivery, came in with her husband and nearly-two-year-old son. Amanda is a very accomplished model and I had done a fashion shoot with her in February when she was her normal rail-thin self.
The little boy had just come from nursery school and was a bit – well, let’s say tired – but we were able to grab a few images with him.
The shoot was great fun for me and I’m looking forward to doing more shoots with expectant moms. As Amanda said, she’ll never look this way again, so she was really pleased to be able to capture these images.
As many times as I’ve seen a pregnant woman or a tiny new-born baby, I’m still absolutely blown away by the whole process of creating a new life. Each time a child is born, it’s an absolute miracle. How can we not believe in God?
In our shoot, Amanda and I were looking for ways to emphasize the size and roundness of her big belly – not something I usually do when shooting a woman! But this is a special time, for sure.
Amanda looked absolutely radiant and happy – and completely comfortable in her shape. She’s going to be a great mom – again!
We did a few headshots of Amanda. I liked this one, in black and white, which to me shows her looking to the future for her new little baby. What will the world be like when this child is 18 – or 80 years old?
I mentioned earlier in the post that Amanda is an experienced model. Here’s an image from our shoot in February, when she was likely just in the early days of her pregnancy. She told me last week that she did not know she was pregnant when we did the February shoot.
Do you know an expectant mom? Hope you will pass along this blog post to them!
