She’s Signed!

My new and dear friend, Riley, eleven years old, has just signed with an agency! Brava, Riley – You Go, Girl!

Faithful readers will recognize Riley from an earlier blog post, Aspiring Young Actor. Riley and her family attended a talent casting event for children in Florida this summer. This engaging young lady garnered a lot of interest, and she is now signed with an agency in Boston to do print modeling and also acting.

She needed new pictures for her “comp card” for the agency, so we shot these images in her backyard. We were trying to show the range of Riley’s looks and emotions. She is a treat to work with and is already a real pro. She did everything her mom and I asked of her, with great confidence, patience and skill.

Riley is amazingly photogenic – I’m not surprised she got snapped up by a major agency.

I brought a surprise prop to the shoot. Riley is, of course, too young to know about pink Princess phones from the 1960’s, but she loved it right away.  We did have to explain to her how a rotary dial worked!

Riley is launched on a terrific career in modeling and acting. I wish her all the best and hope these images will help her land some fun gigs.

Recent Model Shoot

Today I’m posting a couple of images from a recent shoot with Nicky, a college student and aspiring model, with whom I’ve worked several times. Joanna Kirchon did the lovely makeup for these pictures.

In both of these images, I’m trying some new ideas on backgrounds. In the image above, we shot on a white background. I laid in the red/pink in a Photoshop “plug-in” program called Nik Color Efex Pro. The idea was to complement the color of the lips.

In the second image, we also shot on a white background. I laid in the background picture, which is actually a stock photo I purchased. Lots of editing to try to get the two images to fit together believably.

Thank you, Nicky and Joanna for a great shoot!

Expecting!

Last week, I had the pleasure of taking my first pictures of an expectant mother. My friend Amanda, just a couple of weeks before her delivery,  came in with her husband and nearly-two-year-old son. Amanda is a very accomplished model and I had done a fashion shoot with her in February when she was her normal rail-thin self.

The little boy had just come from nursery school and was a bit – well, let’s say tired – but we were able to grab a few images with him.

The shoot was great fun for me and I’m looking forward to doing more shoots with expectant moms.  As Amanda said, she’ll never look this way again, so she was really pleased to be able to capture these images.

As many times as I’ve seen a pregnant woman or a tiny new-born baby, I’m still absolutely blown away by the whole process of creating a new life. Each time a child is born, it’s an absolute miracle. How can we not believe in God?

In our shoot, Amanda and I were looking for ways to emphasize the size and roundness of her big belly – not something I usually do when shooting a woman! But this is a special time, for sure.

Amanda looked absolutely radiant and happy – and completely comfortable in her shape. She’s going to be a great mom – again!

We did a few headshots of Amanda. I liked this one, in black and white, which to me shows her looking to the future for her new little baby. What will the world be like when this child is 18 – or 80 years old?

I mentioned earlier in the post that Amanda is an experienced model. Here’s an image from our shoot in February, when she was likely just in the early days of her pregnancy. She told me last week that she did not know she was pregnant when we did the February shoot.

Do you know an expectant mom? Hope you will pass along this blog post to them!
