Last week, I had the pleasure of shooting again with my friend, J.D., an actor and model. Regular readers will recognize her from my January blog post, Shooting with an Actor.

J.D. wanted to try some images with big, stretchy sweaters. I was game! We didn’t really have a plan for the pose concepts, rather just to try different looks and see what worked.

I had two lights on the background to make it almost pure white and also provide a bit of wraparound light. There was one big soft box above and just to the left of the camera and a reflector below the frame to bounce a bit of soft light back into her face. This is a flattering lighting setup overall, while still allowing for shading on the right side of her face to add dimension and depth to the images.

Capture0105-2-950px-EditJ. D., you are a joy to shoot with.   The best shoots are the ones where the model and the photographer collaborate in the creative process – as we did here.

OK, are you surely clicking on each image to see it bigger on your screen? It makes a difference – Try it! Thanks as always for your interest in my work.

Recently, I had the pleasure of a day of shooting with J.D., an accomplished actor and model. The two of us had a ton of shoot ideas to consider and packed a lot into our time in the studio.

It was mentioned above – but worth repeating; please click on each image to see it bigger. One of the frustrations of blogging is being restricted to the narrow width of the page, but the plug-in program “Fancy Box” lets you jump right outside of those limits. Give it a try!

It was great fun to shoot with you, J.D. Your natural acting and modeling skills come through loud and clear in the these images.

We had a lot of creative spirit going on a cold winter day!

Melanie Posterized

Recently, I had the pleasure of shooting for the second time with Melanie, a young French model. Here’s one of the closeup portraits we did. Faithful readers will recall I often try to work hands into my portraits to add character and expression.

After making this fairly traditional edit in Photoshop, I decided to try a posterized version, which appears below.

The posterized effect is an “artistic filter” in Photoshop. What do you think? Not to everyone’s taste for sure, but I think it works well for this photograph. To see the posterization more clearly, I’ve put a closeup detail of this image below.

Your comments and reactions are most welcome – either on the blog, in an email or a comment on my Facebook page.
