Headshots for an opera singer – and actor

Last week, I had the pleasure of shooting with Abigail, a very accomplished opera singer – well, opera and lots of other genres, such as Broadway musicals – she sang the role of Nellie in South Pacific.  Abby is now shifting gears a bit and taking on the world of film, while continuing to sing. I know she will do well – she is amazingly talented and determined. This is one busy girl, who is not letting any grass grow under her feet.

We shot quite a few different looks, poses and wardrobes.  In this post, I’m featuring three images from just one look.  I’m intrigued by Abigail’s very different expressions in these three photographs – a small sign that she will succeed in portraying the various roles she will take on in film.

We were copying the style of a portrait of Uma Thurman – a pretty good role model for an actor.

As always, your comments and questions are welcome.

1930′s Glamorous Hollywood Movie Star!

My friend  Alisson is an accomplished actress. She is also very much a woman of the 21st Century. But, for one afternoon, We tried to create the look of a 1930′s publicity still of a glamorous movie star.

A lot of effort goes into an image like this.  Alisson searched for and found just the right dress. A terrific makeup artist and hair stylist, Joanna Kirchon, took about two hours for hair styling and makeup. The lighting setup – very high contrast and dramatic – using three different lights – required lots of subtle adjustments to get the look we wanted. And I spent about an hour after the shoot in Photoshop, editing the picture.

Was it worth the effort? I think so! What do you think? As always, your comments and questions are appreciated.

Here’s the black and white version. We’ll post some more images from this shoot in a later post.
