In the Park with Christina

Having terrific fun in my continuing photography project with Christina. This week we went outside for the first time, to a local park. If you haven’t seen any of the pictures from our earlier shoots, check out the blue links to the right, with the name “Christina” in the title.

We just have 2 or 3 more shoots to do. I’m beginning to think about how to bring together many of the images from our 10 weeks of pictures. It might be a video slide show of the photographs, with Christina singing one of the songs she has written and performed. You can hear her terrific voice at Christina Mae.

Stay tuned – literally and figuratively! Thanks again to Christina for collaborating with me on this creative adventure.

Spirals of Life

Slinkies-34679-950px-Edit

On slow days in the studio, I often experiment with shooting abstract images. Mostly, this is just goofing around. (Click on each image to see it bigger on your screen.)

We might give these images a self-important and seriously artistic, high-brow title – like “Spirals of Life.” But I’ve come up with a better title. Keep reading!

Can you guess what these objects are? Long time faithful readers will know right away – these are things I’ve worked with before.

Here’s a hintIMG_0616-950px-Edit, an iPhone image of my setup for one of the shots.

Yes, these are Slinkies. I’m fascinated by the shapes you can come up with when playing with these toys that have been around since before I was born.

Did you send these down the stairs as a kid? The original Slinkies were shiny steel and came out in the 1940’s.

Rather than “Spirals of Life,” how about we just call these photographs: “Fun with Slinkies!” Enjoy!

10 Weeks Shooting with Christina

Christina1-33734-950px-Edit

Please – CLICK on each image in this blog post to see it larger and clearer. It makes a difference!

I’m psyched! Tomorrow, I begin a 10 week course at the International Center of Photography in New York. (See their website.) The course is about building a cohesive personal body of work. I’ve decided to photograph one person over the 10 weeks. My new friend Christina has graciously and enthusiastically agreed to be my subject and partner in this creative venture.

We’ll shoot in the studio, outside and at various other locations. The images will be headshots, full body pictures, and photographs that show some of Christina’s interests and talents (of which there are many – stay tuned!). We haven’t quite figured it all out – but will let the process take us where it wants to.

The images in this post are from our first shoot – just a couple of hours in the studio – last week. We’ll be posting images as the 10 weeks progress along. At the end, I hope to put the photographs together in some way – a book, a video, or a web-based slide show.

Thanks, Christina, for joining with me on what I hope will be a learning experience for us both and a great adventure!
