At the Beach with Christina

Regular readers know that I’ve been working on a continuing personal project with Christina, pictured here, to photograph her over a period of 10 weeks, in a variety of settings.

If you missed some of the earlier blog posts, see the blue links to the right, with Christina’s name in the title.

Last week, we went to a local beach cove and took pictures from about 5pm to 7pm.  With some clouds around and the sunset fast approaching, the light changed every few minutes. So, it was necessary to continually adjust camera settings as well as the strength and angle of the flash. I get spoiled in the studio where I can instinctively set and control my light for hours on end! But this evening was good practice for staying on your toes as conditions changed.

For this shoot, I was ably assisted by my fabulous new 12-year old photo assistant, Ridgely. I used a small flash unit in most of these images and Ridgely held the light for me. But she also held “flags” (you have to look up what a photography flag is!), did some fashion styling and was generally a big help all around. Thank you, Ridgely!

Christina and I are coming to the end of our project – sad to say! I plan to pull together a few of the images from each of our shoots into a video slide show. Stay tuned for details. Christina – you’ve been a joy to work with!

Working both in the studio and on location, photographer Blake Robinson serves the Connecticut communities of Darien, New Canaan, Stamford, Norwalk, Westport and Greenwich.
